about my work
There are 2 main aspects in my work. There is my illustrated diary in which I did make a drawing every day about yesterdays main event in my own life since 1997 till 2024. At the moment I make a diary drawing once in a while.
And there is my textile work, which is my main focus nowadays..
Sometimes I use illustrations from my diary to embroider. (see the group Diary embroideries).
I get also inspired by women in general, my garden, subjects in my work I created in the past, (oilpaintings, gouaches,etches,linocuts and drawings).
I do love working in series, because once I'm inspired by a subject I love continuing in tne theme.
The series Sweet memories, for example, is based on drawings from my diary about me and my friend who died in 2020 of cancer. We did know each other for more than 50 years and realy were soulmates. To make a tribute to our friendship and to remember her during my embroidering was this a way for me to process my grief.
Other examples of series are: Close Encounters, Singing, Interiors, Cherchez la Femme, and recently I'm working on a series Vases and Flowers.
Regularly I use transfers from pictures for example of the back of my other work or from old work (oilpainting, knitted sculptures etc) which I iron on fabric and use with different materials and techniques to create a new artwork.
